Introduction

Project Management (PM) can be defined as the discipline that makes use of some established procedures, principles, procedures and policies beneficial for efficiently managing the project from its conception through completion (Collins, 2011). Thus, the project manager in charge of the undertaken project is responsible to clearly define the project scope, prepare the project schedule, schedule updating, preparing the project budget and efficiently managing the project. He is also responsible for ensuring the fact that project team is facilitated with the right skills so that the project is accomplished on time and within the budget by minimizing the potential risks towards ensuring the desire d quality of project team’s work.
Thus, from the above aspects, it can be said that the project managers have to handle complex tasks that limit the available time to give a thought to the career development. However, as a project manager, it is important that he should emphasize upon figuring out the ways in which more responsibilities can be handled and thus grow within the role (Maylor, 2010). Moreover, in order to grow within the role, it is important that the project manager should take into consideration both its long term and short term professional goals that can be listed with the help of the following table:

From the above listed goals, it can be said that even though all the goals are important for career development of the project manager. However, the two most important professional goals include the focusing upon leadership and understanding the financial impacts.
Focusing Upon Leadership
It is a known fact that in order to advance the career in any direction, the project manager need to be a good leader and it is also important because, if the project manager cannot lead the project team efficiently, the project undertaken can never be accomplished leading to failure of the project together with the failure of the career of the individual as a project manager (Mascia, 2014).

Understanding the Financial Impacts
Being a project manager and accomplishing the undertaken project within the budget can be more or less considered to be an easy. But, in this context, the fact that needs to be taken into consideration is that the project managers should possess the ability and capability to understand the impact on the business and the relationship with the clients if the project goes over budget. If the project manager fails to meet the budget, it can lead to his failure of his career as a project manager.
Again, simply achieving the above discussed professional goals is not enough, the project managers in order grow and develop within his role should developing both internal and external networks through choosing the networking sites:
Operational Networking
This networking site facilitates the project manager in ensuring cooperation and coordination among the individuals like the seniors, peers, team members, client, distributor s, suppliers and the customers who need to know and trust each other for the successful accomplishment of the undertaken project and thus with each success, the career of the individual as a project manager would take new heights (hbr.org, 2007).
Personal Networking
Through personal networking, the project manager would be able to become aware of his limitations in context social skills together with their knowledge about the professional domains. So, it can be said that the personal networking with the professional associations, clubs, alumni groups and personal interest communities would facilitate the project managers to develop their skills and knowledge which would facilitate in advancing in their career through important information, referrals and development support in the form of mentoring and coaching.
Strategic Networking
Through strategic networking, the project managers can make an effective use of the indirect influence; convince an individual to take an action that is important for the accomplishment of the project. Thus it can be said that through strategic networking, the project manager can shape his image and can turn things into his favor for accomplishing the project in a successful manner which would add to his credibility and success (hbr.org, 2007).
The above strategies facilitates in efficiently managing the project, however the project managers face various challenges in global project management. The issues include the cultural diversity of the team members and stakeholders and inability to communicate face to face with the team members and stakeholders (Gemünden, 2015). Thus, in this context, the project managers should emphasize upon adopting a global communication strategy and a standard language of communication. If setting standard communication is not possible, arrangements for translators should be made.
Conclusion
Thus from the above discussions it can be said that the project managers in order to achieve success in his career need to adopt the certain goals and strategies failure to which would limit his career as a project manager.
