Many HCOs have found it useful to conduct a SWOT analysis. SWOT is an acronym for strengths. weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Strengths and weaknesses refer to elements that are internal to the organization; opportunities and threats are external to the organization. An effective SWOT analysis helps the marketing team determine the healthcare organization’s position in a particular market place as well as the positions of its competitors. By analyzing the current market and the deficiencies of the HCO’s competitors, and by assessing the HCO’s internal strengths and weaknesses, the marketing team can reposition the organization to meet and exceed the needs of its customers.
For this assignment, you will conduct a detailed SWOT analysis of your chosen healthcare organization for your Final Project. Discuss your selected organization’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and possible threats. The SWOT analysis should include the following five components: Strengths An organization’s resources and capabilities that can be used as a basis for developing a competitive advantage.
Weaknesses Limitations of an organization to meet the needs of its determined customer base.
Opportunities External conditions that may reveal certain new opportunities regarding profit and growth.

Mayo clinic comprises broad array of strengths which tends to provide the organization with high competitive advantages in the health care domain (, 2018). The clinic further fundamentally purposes to ensure proper alignment of its operational activities with its mission (, 2018).

The primary mission of the organization lies in developing hope and providing valuable contribution to the welfare and health of the patients by offering efficient health care services through exploration, education and clinical practices (Trastek et al., 2014). Furthermore, Mayo clinic has been observed to invest significantly in the domains of innovation and research in order to enhance the health conditions of its patient base through supreme quality care and services (Chen et al., 2013).
The organization comprises of efficient teams which are involved in multidisciplinary inquiry that has further aided in rapid discoveries of new and improved treatment as well as prevention tools and mechanisms (, 2018).

As a result, the organization has been observed as an important model that functions to decrease the expenditure rate of patient care in the US while providing supreme level of patient treatment and services.

The payment system of the Mayo clinic has witnessed certain challenges which have further impacted the enthusiasm and dedication of the staffs engaged with the organization due to the sudden decision of the removal of monetary benefits. This further has influenced the performance and growth of the organization (Nickerson et al., 2014). It has further been noted that fixed payment method utilized by the organization for offering remuneration to the physicians is not based on consumer capacity.
Reports reveal that the affiliated regional medical associations inquiry has revealed that the urgent care centers of involved in Mayo Health System attained the 12thposition in 2013 that is considered to be below average in the US health care sector (Berry & Seltman, 2014).
Furthermore, as Mayo Clinic generally drives people belonging to diverse culture and religious backgrounds in order to work together, the lack of diversity synergy might develop certain conflicting situations within the organization (, 2018).

Developments in healthcare requirements, technical expertise along with health care expenditures tend to create significant areas of avenues to the hospital. As technological developments have significantly compelled several HCOs to proficiently implement latest technical proficiencies to efficiently provide enhanced level of treatment and care to their patients (, 2018). Such technical advancements have facilitated organizations to gain competitive advantages and benefits in order to thrive in the US health care sector.
Mayo Clinic must competently aid these recently emerged medical proficiencies in order to provide it with utmost competitive benefits and further improve its treatment and services (Jaffe, 2015).
A broad domain of patients in various parts of the world essentially requires highly equipped health care and services to severely critical patients.
Furthermore, the persistent growth of aging populace in the United States and its neighboring regions have led to an increase in the implementation of specialized treatment and services and thus develops a propensity for the organization to expand the range of its enhanced care to efficiently serve its customer base (, 2018).
Mayo Clinic being one of the leading health care organizations in the US has exhibited a propensity to emphasize on significant affiliations and associations in order to expand its services to reach into new states and develop a larger organization (Nickerson et al., 2014). In 2013, the organization has been noted to incorporate a Mayo Clinic Care Network which significantly facilitates the organization to associate with other reputed hospitals and further efficiently broaden its scope and objectives (Chen et al., 2013).

Mayo Clinic in recent times has been encountering immense competition from other prominent health care organizations in the United States
Though the HCO has obtained considerable degree of recognition for its supreme health care services, but tends to encounter critical rivalry which might be influential to the performance and growth of Mayo Clinic (Trastek et al., 2014).
Thus the organization must efficiently implement product and service delineation strategies and approaches in order to sustain its competitive benefits in the US health care sector (Chen et al., 2013). The health care organization must further make investments in technological domain and other approaches which will provide the organization with a competitive edge in order to enhance its organizational efficacy (Jaffe, 2015).
The increasingly transforming health care sector is further regarded as a critical factor or threat for the organization and might further pose impact the Mayo Clinic if effective strategies reveal incompetence in successfully embrace these developments (Trastek et al., 2014).

Therefore from the above micro environment analysis of Mayo Clinic, it can be stated that a differentiation strategy will further provide the organization certain beneficial advantages in the health care sector. The organization must efficiently implement other vital strategies in order to sustain its growth and development within the health care domain. Firstly, the health care organization must execute product and service differentiation approach in order to effectively identify its health care services from the other competitors of US health sector.

Proper segmentation of training, induction, distinctive values and standards will develop resources to the management of diminutive portion of Mayo Clinic’s waste resources required for special treatment and care.
Mayo Clinic must further address ‘role’ focused abilities on actual engagement, well time spent as well as activities. Thus should primarily focus on managerial time spent quality, prevention and safety.
Mayo Clinic must aim to create exceptional patient oriented experience which is regarded as one of the most effective marketing tool implemented in the Health Care sector in order to attain utmost success and growth.
