>Author 1 – Spundak:
According to Špundak, (2014), “Project management methodology is defined as a set of methods, procedures and practices used on a project life cycle”.
The role of project methodology in project management is to maintain a common language for interaction and planning before the beginning of the project work.
>Author 2- Joslin&Muller:

The role of project methodology in project management is to lead team members to effective project outcomes that achieve organizational goals and objectives.
>Author 3-Keleckaite;
(Keleckaite, 2015), the author describes “Project management methodology as a combination of practices, methods and procedures to evaluate a project in a project life cycle”.
The role of project methodology in project management is to enable the tracking of progress of each stage in a project against the metrics and facilities that are pre-determined.
>Author 4-Martinelli & Milosevic:
“The project management methodology is also described asa method to avoid failure and eliminates risks in a project in its project life cycle” (Martinelli& Milosevic, 2016).
The role of project methodology in project management is to establish methods for managing and handling of projects more effectively and efficiently.
>Author 5-Kerzner:
The definition of project methodology by other author is that,”It contains definitions, guidelines and templates for the various activities of project management” (Kerzner, 2018).
The role of project methodology in project management is to provide an estimated and accurate budget for the completion of the whole project.
2. Comparison between Agile Scrum and PMBOK methodology
Solution:The differences between PMBOK and Agile Scrum are given as follows.
PMBOK
AGILE SCRUM
1) PMBOK is a standard which is developed by the Project Management Institute.
1) Agile Scrum is a framework developed by software developments experts group (Obrutsky, 2015).
2) PMBOK focuses on finishing of all planning processes at beginning and after that development of the product starts.
2) Agile Scrum focuses on quick delivery of products after the development of products starts.
3) The project manager in PMBOK methodologies manages the project across industries.
3) However, the Scrum master and self-managed team together handle and manages the project which is specific for project management.
4) The project manager in PMBOK prioritizes the defined work.
4) Whereas Product owner prioritize its written story points in Agile Scrum.
5) PMBOK is complex and hence not suitable for small projects.
5) Agile Scrum is suitable for small projects development.
6) The project in PMBOK is split into several phases that are categorized one after the other.
6) Whereas project is split into sprints in Agile Scrum.
Similarities :
The similarities between PMBOK and Agile Scrum are given as follows.
The first similarity is delivering the right thing on right time and on estimated budget.
The second similarity is communication among the team members and project manager.
The third similarity is progressive elaboration of project development in project management.
The fourth similarity is that both the methodologies follow similar project life cycle process which includes planning, execution, monitoring and controlling of project.
Advantages and Disadvantages of PMBOK :
The advantages of PMBOK are that it is process oriented and manages large projects.
The disadvantages of PMBOK are not suitable for small projects and connection of team is difficult.
Advantages and Disadvantages of AGILE SCRUM :
The advantages of Agile Scrum are clients get quick results, requirements are gathered after each deliverable and flexibility to client changes.
The disadvantages of Agile Scrum are generating scope creep due to addition from customers after receiving deliverables and team’s productivity decreases if a member leaves.
3. Relation of Agile Scrum with Project Life Cycle (PLC)
Solution: The Agile Scrum methodology and processes relate to the project life cycle in various ways and they are described as below.
The project life cycle (PLC)has four phases which consists of,start-up phase, planning phase, execution phase and close-out phase.
The first phase describes the purpose, strategic fit of the project, goals and objectives of the project, estimate budget and references.
The second phase describes the final scope of the project, team member selection, deliverables of plan, baseline budget and approvals from the management.
The third phase describes production of deliverables, controlled monitors, time management, quality assurance, cost management, risk management, communication and reporting to the management.
The fourth phase is project close-out, team member’s feedback, recommendations for addition of further actions to be taken and review of the project after implementation (Serrador & Pinto, 2015).
The Agile Scrum methodology has five phases which consists of, planning phase, developing phase, Testing phase, Delivering phase and Assessment phase.
The Agile Scrum methodology divides the work into sprints where the scope of project is delivered at the end of each sprint simultaneously.
The planning is done as sprint planning to structure the project for the next task.
The next task is developing the design of the project according to the sprint plan and then testing of the developed project.
The delivering of the project is then done to assess the feedbacks given by the stakeholders and the clients.
The above description of project life cycle and Agile Scrum methodology shows that both has similar processes.
The Agile Scrum methodology uses sprint in its whole life cycle where it appropriately relates with the project life cycle (Permana, 2015).
The design and deliver phase of Agile Scrum methodology completely relate with the project life cycle in project management.
